Mark Group Goes the Extra Green Mile

Friday 09 April 2010

Not satisfied with simply making the nation’s homes more energy-efficient, Mark Group is giving its commercial fleet and drivers a ‘green’ makeover.

Using vehicles made from recycled materials and improving fuel-efficiency through training from TTC Automotive, the leading installer of energy-saving solutions is once again practising what it preaches, to improve its own environmental credentials.

The Group has gradually invested in a fleet of over 400 commercial delivery vehicles with bodies made from recycled plastic bottles – a lightweight material which means that amongst other benefits, the vehicles are more fuel-efficient than traditional models. And, aiming to go the ‘extra green mile’ the Mark Group has teamed up with national specialists in driver education, TTC Automotive to improve vehicle handling, road safety and learn techniques to help reduce fuel consumption.

Kevin Cook, Mark Group Health and Safety Director, said: “We are all being encouraged to do things like drive more fuel-efficient cars or car share, to reduce our CO2 emissions – so, as a company which is focussed on finding energy-saving solutions, we wanted to take some significant steps towards making our vehicles ‘greener’.

“We approached TTC Automotive to see how their driver training programme could be of benefit to us, not only for ensuring our drivers were highly skilled, but also the potential for reducing fuel consumption. This coupled with the lightweight vehicles we are using, means we are applying energy saving solutions to yet another aspect of our business operations.”

Driver training will start in the Spring for 40 members of staff, using the lightweight ‘green’ vehicles. Then, through TTC Automotive’s programme, trainees will go on to become assessors for the rest of the business, developing the Mark Group’s road safety improvement programme.

“We are delighted to have been selected by the Mark Group to help them achieve their aims of reducing fuel consumption, improving safety and reducing costs,” said TTC Automotive director Simon Baugh.
Mark Group has been established since 1974 and has grown to become a leading installer of renewable energy technologies. To date the company has made more than 2 million homes in the UK more energy efficient and is working heavily with industry influencers and policy-makers to drive widespread adoption of microgeneration solutions.
