Feed in Tariff Drives Mark Group Recruitment
Friday 17 December 2010
Leicester-based energy saving business Mark Group, has trained another group of solar panel electricians this month (December 2010) to meet increasing demand from homeowners wanting renewable energy solutions.
The announcement of the Government’s Feed in Tariff earlier this year sparked a rise in enquiry levels for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems amongst UK homeowners. And, as a leading domestic installer, Mark Group responded by launching a national recruitment drive for roles ranging from property assessors, to office staff, to electrical engineers.
The engineers will help increase Mark Group’s capabilities to install solar PV systems locally, working out of the Company’s 15 UK service distribution centres. The new recruits all have a background in electrical engineering, but have now been trained at Mark Group’s purpose-built Academy in Beaumont Leys in the specific skills required for solar panel installation.
Of the new employees, Daniel Pick is from East Goscote, Leicestershire. Daniel had previously worked as an electrical mechanical engineer and was interested in the new opportunities that Mark Group was offering. He said: “I’ve worked in the construction industry for a number of years and knew Mark Group was well established as the biggest installer of home energy saving measures.
“Government grants and initiatives have made a big difference to the home energy saving market, and that’s one of the reasons why I was interested in a job at Mark Group, because I knew there would be a future here for me.”
Nick Parkes, Mark Group Academy Director, added: “Government initiatives, like the Feed in Tariff, do have an impact on our business and as our recent recruitment drive has shown, enable us to offer new opportunities to strengthen our workforce.
“We currently employ around 650 people within the Leicestershire area and earlier this year, saw our 1000th trainee graduate from the Academy. As the message about energy saving reaches more homeowners and landlords, we hope it will help us to grow further and provide even more local employment.”
The Feed in Tariff launched in April 2010 and rewards those who generate their own power. Homeowners and businesses receive one payment for the electricity produced by their system, another payment for the power which is exported to the grid and also benefit from savings made by using less power from their energy provider.
