Mark Group gain industry approval from Microgeneration Certification Scheme

Wednesday 07 January 2009

The UK’s largest energy efficiency installer, Mark Group, has proved to be up to standard by becoming the first multi-sited, multi-technology installer to achieve approval under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), the energy efficiency sector’s benchmark for quality and performance.

The Mark Group is approved to install Solar Hot Water systems, Solar Photovoltaic systems and Heat Pump systems from any of its 14 locations across the UK. This government scheme is the responsibility of the Department for Business, Enterprise, and Regulatory Reform (BERR) and is currently delivered by the Buildings Research Establishment (BRE), amongst others.

Having superseded the ClearSkies programme, the aim of the MCS is to improve consumer confidence by setting industry benchmarks for quality and reliable performance. These will help grow a responsible Microgeneration Industry leading to reduced carbon emissions in the UK. It uses a robust set of criteria to evaluate installers, like Mark Group, across a variety of Microgeneration Technologies.

Installations are inspected on site for system specification and installation quality and the installer’s offices are audited for processes and documentation that ensures that the installation service can be delivered consistently. It is therefore no surprise that the MCS is providing greater protection for consumers whilst ensuring any Government funding is spent in an effective manner.

Andrew Taylor, Group Product Manager at the Mark Group, received their MCS Certificate personally from the BRE’s Associate Director, Chris Roberts, at Mark Group’s Head Office in Leicester.

Mr Taylor said, “We received a full, and very detailed, audit on our office processes at a number of our locations. BRE checked all the paperwork, procedures and systems associated with our Service Delivery Operations for Renewable Technologies. The auditor then visited a variety of our customers’ sites, all over the UK, ensuring that all technologies were inspected in line with the strict criteria set out in the MCS Installation Standards. I was impressed with the thorough nature of the assessments.”

Mr Taylor also commented, “This Certification gives us a mark of approval on quality and performance and shows our customers that they can have full confidence in any Mark Group installation.”

After achieving endorsement of their installer credentials through the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, Mark Group will have further annual assessments to retain their MCS certified status.
