Leicester householders warm to Hot Lofts scheme as project passes 50,000 home mark
Monday 26 January 2009
A new scheme targeting energy inefficiency in the home is warming to its task with over 50,000 householders consulted and given advice over energy wastage and heat loss.
The Hot Lofts scheme – run in partnership between Leicester City Council, Leicester based Mark Group and British Gas – targets energy wasting homes in Leicester and offers the owners the chance to save money and energy. All private homes in key priority areas are eligible for the scheme and through additional council funding, some private residents could be in line for free insulation.
So far the scheme has targeted 51,500 properties in Leicester, with Mark Group – the approved installer for the scheme – insulating 4,000 of those properties and carrying out 7,054 measures. Both cavity wall and loft insulation are offered under the Hot Lofts scheme, which so far through the insulation installed has made a saving of 3410 tonnes of CO2.
Bill Rumble, Mark Group Commercial Director, said: “We are very much on target with the Hot Lofts scheme. Having gone past the 50,000 mark, we have a further 50,000 homes to look at which will be carried out over the next three years. The response so far has been very encouraging and people seemed to have grasped the nettle in looking to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.”
Mr Rumble added that remaining householders would be contacted and advised about the Hot Lofts scheme including eligibility criteria. This includes advice on how to book insulation measures for Hot Lofts through Mark Group, who are the only approved installers for the scheme.
Although everyone who is eligible will be contacted by letter, householders can log on to www.leicester.gov.uk/hotlofts to find out if there home is in a priority area or contact 0116 2211170 for further advice and information.
