Mark Group Brings Light to Rajkot

Mark Group representatives met with a delegation from the Indian city of Rajkot – including Rajkot’s Leader of the Council, Deputy Mayor and Chief Executive – at Mark Group’s Leicester HQ for a solar seminar looking at solar energy options. Mark Group was the only renewables installer company to meet with the Rajkot party during a week long stay organised by Leicester Energy Agency -in conjunction with Leicester City Council – which saw the Rajkot dignitaries visit the Houses of Parliament, meet Leicester MEP Sir Peter Soulsby and see a range of renewables and environmental projects in the Leicestershire region.

The Rajkot deputation visited the Mark Group to discuss solar energy installer options as part of their plan to become one of India’s first solar cities under the Indian Government’s ambitious Solar Cities Programme. Under the scheme £5m rupees have been made available to Rajkot to implement their solar plans, which will see solar energy systems providing the city’s energy needs and solar energy become mandatory for all new buildings.

It was an excellent and enlightening meeting and we hopefully look forward to working with the Rajkot authority in the future.”

We asked to have the Mark Group included in our itinerary for this visit and the solar power seminar was very informative in relation to our Solar Cities Programme plans.”

Rajkot city is the fourth largest city in the Gujarat district and alongside its participation in the Solar Cities programme, has been a leading authority in renewables and energy efficiency provision in India. The Rajkot authority has built a Renewable Energy Demonstration Centre in the city – one of the first of its type in India, showcasing an array of ‘green’ technologies to help inform people about how to make their lives and homes more energy efficient.

Since being founded in 1974, the Mark Group has rapidly expanded to become the UK’s largest insulation and renewables installer, employing 300 people in Leicestershire alone and has 14 distribution centres across the UK. It is investing millions in building more.
