Mark Group gets set to fuel the energy sector in West Midlands with new depot jobs boost

Sunday 16 November 2008

Energy efficiency firm Mark Group is to open a new distribution hub in Birmingham with the creation of 115 new jobs.

The UK’s largest insulation and energy efficiency group, The Mark Group, will open its new depot in Oldbury on November 3 and is looking to recruit staff throughout the month.
An office manager, field managers, administrative staff, experienced and trainee cavity wall and loft insulation technicians and renewables crews are all being sought to work out of the new distribution centre.

The 11,000 square foot site will provide a distribution and operations base for Mark Group in the West Midlands, from which their army of green technicians will go out to meet the insulation needs of the region. With the Government’s recent unveiling of a £910 million pound package of measures to make UK homes more energy efficient – including half price insulation for all and free insulation to the over 70s – Mark Group has opened up the Oldbury depot to help meet the rising demand for insulation that has come from Whitehall’s announcement.

Overall, Mark Group is looking to employ 60 crews and create 150 jobs in total by April 2009, with this month’s recruitment drive focused on the staff infrastructure to get the new site up and running.

Bill Rumble, Mark Group Director, said: “In the midst of the current economic climate where people are unfortunately losing their jobs, we are delighted to offer the opportunity to recruit such large numbers of staff.

“Our new site at Oldbury is designed to meet the increased demand for insulation, which has in part come from the Government’s recent announcement, and the appetite in general from people to make their homes more energy efficient.”

Mark Group – the UK’s largest installer of energy efficiency measures – has also recently opened its new academy in Leicester – a vocational facility dedicated to training a new generation of green energy technicians. Around 1,000 people are expected to be trained as installers – who will graduate with a skills set to encompass a whole range of renewable technologies including solar power, insulation, photovoltaics and wind turbines, as well as cavity wall and loft insulation.

So far almost 400 installers have graduated from the Mark Group training academy. Over 500 installers are expected to have graduated from the academy by the end of 2008.
