Mark Group training academy lays foundations for government green jobs boost plan
Monday 24 November 2008
Government plans to create jobs in the ailing construction sector by insulating more homes has been welcomed by the Mark Group – whose own unique ‘green’ training academy is about to produce its 500th graduate.
In today’s pre-budget report statement, Chancellor Alistair Darling will outline Government plans to create more than 10,000 jobs in the construction industry with a drive to insulate more homes in the private and public sector. It’s hoped the insulation drive will offer a lifeline to workers in the construction sector, which has been hardest hit by the economic downturn.
Mark Group – the UK’s largest energy efficiency installer – has already laid the foundations for meeting the demand for insulation and creating the workforce to cope with it, by opening a unique training academy – a vocational facility dedicated to training a new generation of installation technicians. The Mark Academy, in Leicester, will train people as energy efficiency installers and they will graduate with a skill set to encompass a whole range of energy efficiency technologies including solar power, insulation, photovoltaics and wind turbines.
So far almost 500 installers have graduated from the Mark Academy, with the landmark 500th installer set to pass out of the Academy sometime early next month.
Bill Rumble, Mark Group Director, said: “The Academy is dedicated to the training and development of a new generation of energy efficiency technicians, who we see as the domestic front line in the battle against climate change.
“We currently have a number of installers working for the Mark Group, who have trained through our Academy after applying for jobs with us because they had been laid off from the construction sector. With the Academy, we have an excellent training facility with good quality, long term jobs available and we welcome more people from the construction or similar industrial sectors to join our ‘green’ revolution.”
