Mark Group Joins Green Trade Mission to United States

Monday 28 March 2011

  • DECC’s green trade mission to the US will visit Philadelphia’s Navy Yard, where Mark Group opened its US headquarters in October 2010.

Leading energy saving specialist, Mark Group, will be joining Climate Change Minister, Greg Barker and five other green UK business champions on a first ever green trade mission to the United States this week (Monday 28th March to Friday 1st April 2011).

The Department pf Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has arranged the visit to Washington DC, Philadelphia, Charlotte (North Carolina) and Columbia (South Carolina) to meet with business leaders, politicians and regional development bodies to explore openings for UK green businesses.

Mark Group was invited to attend based on its four decades of experience in the UK energy saving market and its recent expansion in 2010, to the US. Bill Rumble, Mark Group Commercial Director who will be joining the Minister, said: "It is a privilege to be invited to take part in DECC’s first ever green trade mission. Mark Group sees itself as a pioneer of the energy saving industry both in the UK and in overseas markets. We hope, through this visit to North America, we will be able to help the UK government showcase its home grown green talent and help the US develop a thriving green economy."

The green trade mission will include a visit to Philadelphia’s Navy Yard, a location which has experienced multi million dollar green business investment over the past few years, including Mark Group’s US headquarters in October 2010.

Mr Rumble continued: “Not only will I be able share our experiences as a UK business of expanding into the US, but members of our new 40 strong North American workforce and business partners, are being invited to join some of the activities scheduled for the Philadelphia leg of the tour.”

The trade mission has three main aims – to help UK companies break into the US market, to demonstrate the opportunities presented by the green economy and to highlight the massive opportunities for investment back in the UK.

Climate Change Minister, Greg Barker, added: “I am proud to be a cheerleader for Britain’s green businesses and am in America this week flying the flag for those firms that are breaking into the US market.

“The companies joining me on the US trade mission are living proof of the economic benefits of the new green economy and can therefore help me make the case that going green is good for the economy, as well as energy security.

“I’ll be telling the people I meet about the transformation of the UK economy that we are delivering through the Green Deal, our reforms of the electricity market and the creation of the green investment bank. My message will be that Britain is open for green business investment.”

Mark Group has already hosted two visits for Greg Barker MP – to its meet its 1000th trainee at its Leicester-based Training Academy in June 2010, and to commend £50million investment in solar energy for schools, at a 240 panel solar electricity installation at Birchwood High School in Bishops Stortford last September.
