MP has Lesson in Energy Saving from Mark Group
Friday 23 July 2010
Local MP Mark Hoban, experienced first hand today (Friday 23rd July) the work that is being done to help Fareham residents become more energy-efficient, thanks to energy-saving specialist, Mark Group.
Mr Hoban MP was invited to visit Mark Group’s Service Distribution Centre at Matrix Park in Fareham, before travelling to Locks Heath to see a residential property having cavity wall insulation installed.
At the Group’s service facility, Mr Hoban MP met staff and viewed the variety of energy-saving measures which are available to homeowners – largely cavity wall and loft insulation. He was also given a glimpse of ‘microgeneration’ technologies such as solar panels and heat pumps, as well as learning about more specialist, solid wall, insulation options which can be used on properties which aren’t suitable for standard cavity wall solutions.
Mr Hoban MP, said: “Energy-saving is establishing itself as part of our everyday lives and there has certainly been a growth in consumer awareness within the last few years, as Government strives to meet carbon emissions reductions targets.
“It was good to meet the employees from the Mark Group and find out about the work they can do to help local people use energy more efficiently. Cutting energy use is good for our pockets and the environment.”
On average, Mark Group is currently installing 450 cavity wall and loft insulation measures into homes in Fareham and the surrounding area every week. Nationwide the Group is delivering around 250,000 measures annually and since it was founded in 1974, has made more than two million properties in the UK more energy-efficient.
Bill Rumble, Mark Group Commercial Director, added: “Our Fareham operation currently employs 59 staff and four years ago moved to its current premises, a facility which is more than twice the size of its previous unit. This is evidence that the market for energy-saving measures is growing and with the Government’s proposed ‘Green Deal’ on the horizon, we hope home insulation will soon become a ‘must have’ for every property in the UK.”
Cavity wall and loft insulation can be installed in an average family home for a one off cost of around £300. Based on current estimates published by the Energy Savings Trust, this could save homeowners up to £265 a year on their energy bills.
