Local Club is First to Benefit from Mark Group and RFU Scheme
Thursday 25 March 2010
Stothert and Pitt RFC in Corston, Bath is the first club to benefit from national energy-saving company, Mark Group’s, scheme to provide cash funds for every cavity or loft insulation measure booked by rugby fans.
The initiative was launched by Mark Group Partnerships Director, Martin Corry. As a former British Lion and England International, Martin wanted to encourage the nation to save money and energy heating their home, whilst at the same time, supporting the RFU’s minis and juniors clubs throughout the country.
Mark Group rolled the scheme out in February to 1,900 minis and juniors clubs nationwide, promising to donate £25 for every insulation measure installed. So far, installation appointments have been made by rugby fans everywhere from Hampshire to Leicestershire, and Yorkshire to Sussex.
The first donation will be made to Stothert and Pitt RFC through an installation at Bath Rugby fan, Rex Cockroft’s house. He said: “I’ve heard a lot on the radio and TV about the money you can save on your heating bills, by making sure your home is properly insulated. So, when I heard about the scheme that Mark Group was offering in partnership with the RFU it seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to save money, and to help support grassroots rugby at the same time.”
Martin Corry and Mark Group aim to ensure every home in the UK is properly insulated and the club scheme offers members, friends and family competitively priced insulation products to achieve that. Any rugby fan that has their home insulated via the scheme will automatically generate a donation to the club of £25 per measure. Typical annual savings for installing these measures is up to £150* for loft insulation, depending on existing levels of insulation, and up to £115* for cavity wall insulation.
All clubs who enter the scheme will be entered into a monthly prize draw with the chance to win tickets for England International games, training balls, junior coaching courses run by Leicester Tigers and the top prize for the club that raises the most money; a coaching session by Leicester Tigers Rugby Club with a personal appearance by a member of the first team.
Martin Corry, added: “We launched the scheme just a few weeks ago so it’s really encouraging to see rugby fans, nationwide, are getting involved. Today we have donated our first £25, but with 1,900 grassroots clubs out there, we are looking forward to seeing that figure rise.”
Members, friends or family can register for their free survey by visiting www.markgroup.co.uk/rugby or by calling freephone 0800 111 4969. An advisor will visit the property at a mutually convenient time and recommend appropriate insulation.
