Rushin' to Raise £5,000

Monday 14 June 2010

Beaumont Leys-based energy saving company, Mark Group, is digging deep into its pockets to support employee Richard Rushin, in his bid to raise £5,000 for a charity mountain climb of Gran Paradiso in Italy next month.

Richard Rushin (42) and his climbing partner, Chris Greenwell (49) of Leicester-based HBJ Gateley Wareing, will be undertaking the challenge in early July to reach the summit of the highest mountain in the Italian Alps. They plan to divide the £5,000 target amongst LOROS, CHICS, Wishes 4 Kids and Primary Immunodeficiency Association (PIA), the latter two having personal relevance to Richard and his daughter Millie (12).

The three day climb, taking place over 3rd, 4th and 5th July, will see the pair scale a massive 14,000 feet before arriving at the peak of Gran Paradiso. To achieve their goal, Richard and Chris have been putting themselves through a gruelling training programme over the past six months, but as they both admit, nothing really compares to the challenge itself.

Richard said: “I have climbed the big peaks of the British Isles and Chris has Mont Blanc under his belt, but this will be my first major expedition in Mainland Europe. We have both been working hard at the gym, but the pressure is really on now to ensure we are both in shape for the climb, and that we don’t let our sponsors down.”

Richard and Chris have so far raised around £1,000 between them, with £500 being donated by Mark Group. Richard continued: “Friends and colleagues have all promised their support, which we are incredibly grateful for and my wife, Tracey, is planning further fundraising activities for when we are away on the climb. However, we would really like others to donate whatever they can. Wishes 4 Kids and PIA have made a difference to our family and to our daughter Millie, and I know there are many other people across Leicestershire who know of their good work.”

Wishes 4 Kids was created to grant wishes for children and youngsters in Leicestershire who are life limited, terminally ill, have experienced life-changing physical or emotional traumas, have suffered major abuse or are diagnosed as HIV Positive. PIA is a national charity dedicated to supporting over 5,000 people born with chronic immune disorders, and their families.

Richard and Chris would like to hear from anyone who is interested in supporting their challenge. To make a donation and to find out more about the climb visit http://www.justgiving.com/Richard-Rushin1
