Social Housing Providers plot a path for the future with Mark
Thursday 13 December 2007
Social housing providers from across the UK have attended a series of seminars organised by energy efficiency experts the Mark Group, to discover how to get the most out of the new CERT regulations.
Taking place at locations in Leeds, Clydebank, Gaydon and Lambourn, the CERT seminars provided the opportunity for housing associations and local authorities to find out more about funding opportunities available through the third phase of the Carbon Emission Reduction Target. With CERT phase 3 introduced in April 2008 the seminars gave housing providers the chance to learn more about a range of issues including funding streams, energy efficiency obligations advice and the range of renewable technology available for improving energy efficiency.
Speakers at the seminars included Mark Group Director Bill Rumble,Dave Newitt of British Gas and Dr Eoin Lees from the Energy Saving Trust. The events drew around 140 social
housing providers including representatives from Leeds City Council, City of Edinburgh Council, Luton Community Housing and South Staffordshire Housing Association.
Bill Rumble, MARK Group Director, said: “We had a great response to the seminars and all those who attended remarked on how valuable and useful the event was.
“CERT is on the horizon and it’s important for social landlords to be aware of the opportunities that exist through CERT and how to get the most out of it.
“The seminars certainly achieved that and gave those attending a real insight into what CERT has to offer for them.”
The Carbon Emission Reduction Target is a stipulation imposed on the gas and electricity transporters and suppliers to ensure that they meet energy efficiency targets by assisting their customers in taking energy efficient measures in their homes. Suppliers must achieve at least half of their energy savings in households on income-related benefits and tax credits. CERT has so far run in two phases with the third phase set to run from April 2008 to 2011 with the likelihood that current energy efficiency targets will be doubled.
The MARK Group are the UK’s largest provider of ‘whole house’ solutions to energy efficiency offering a full range of energy efficiency technologies including Solar Electricity, Solar Hot Water,Cavity Wall Insulation, Loft Insulation,Timber Frame Insulation, Heat Pumps and Wind Turbines.
