Three Thousand to Save Money on Heating Bills

Wednesday 14 April 2010

More than 3,000 homes owned by Corby Borough Council could soon benefit from lower heating bills, thanks to a new insulation scheme being installed by energy-saving specialist, Mark Group.

With the help of British Gas and Mark Group, 150 properties had cavity wall or loft insulation insulated in March and there are plans to survey more than 3,000 more properties over the next few years. This means that by next winter, many residents will be able to relax in a comfortable, warm home, without having to worry about high energy prices.

Insulation is being installed to bring properties in line with the Government’s Decent Homes legislation – and will also help on the path to meeting its Code for Sustainable Homes standards. Technicians from Mark Group, the UK’s leading installer of energy-saving solutions have been laying loft insulation to the required thickness of 270mm and filling the cavity which sits between the inner and outer walls of houses, with a cotton-wool like glass fibre, a bit like wrapping a house in a big woolly blanket.

Mark Plumb is Mark Group’s Community Programmes Manager. He said: “Saving energy, and money, in your home can be really easy to do. At Mark Group we recommend homeowners start by insulating their homes – keeping heat inside so that money isn’t, literally, escaping through the walls.

“Residents may have seen our vans around and about as we have already insulated a number of properties in Corby. Some of our work has included apartment blocks and buildings which have required specialist access equipment, but in every case our Field Manager is contactable by anyone who has any questions about the installation, or how our work may affect them.”

The effects of cavity wall and loft insulation can be felt immediately – and over time, can be seen in heating bills. The insulation is quick and easy to install by trained technicians, but within just one year, a staggering £265* can be saved on heating bills.

Corby Borough Council’s Assistant Chief Executive, Angela Warburton, added: “As a local authority we have a responsibility to ensure our properties are up to the Decent Homes Standard and this insulation scheme is just part of the work carried out to do just that.

“We are pleased to be working with British Gas and Mark Group on this scheme and are sure that it will help our residents save money at a time when every penny counts.”

Mark Group has been insulating homes across the UK since 1974, and to date has made more than two million properties more energy efficient. Mark Group also works in partnership with leading manufacturers of insulation products and as an accredited member of the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA), residents can be assured of the highest standard of workmanship.
