After having her own home insulated before Christmas, Witham MP, Priti Patel congratulated Wickham Bishops homeowners Mr and Mrs Pulford last week (Friday 20th January) as they had their loft insulated by local company, Mark Group.

Highlighting that insulation is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to cut heating bills and reduce carbon emissions, Ms Patel was eager to talk to the couple who had put loft insulation on their home improvement list when they moved into their property 18 months ago.

Homeowner Sue Pulford said: “Our home was built in the late 1960s and that was the last time the loft was insulated, needless to say it needed topping up. We are quite aware of the various insulation options available so knew the property already had cavity wall insulation installed, but given the ever increasing cost of heating, were keen to make the necessary changes to the loft.”

Through the Carbon Emissions Reductions Target (CERT) programme, the Pulfords were eligible for free insulation. And, after receiving an information leaflet through the door from their energy provider before Christmas, they decided it was time to arrange for insulation to be installed.

Mark Group installers laid new insulation in the Pulford’s loft, bringing it up the Government’s recommended level of 270mm. The technicians also fitted appropriate insulation materials around pipes and the loft hatch to ensure as much heat as possible would be retained.

“You can install loft insulation yourself but it’s not the easiest thing to do and we feel far happier knowing the professionals from Mark Group have done the job properly. We’re certainly looking forward to enjoying the benefits of it across the rest of the winter,” added Mrs Pulford.

Prior to visiting the Pulford’s home, Priti Patel was introduced to employees working at Mark Group’s Eastways Industrial Estate premises and given an overview of the range of insulation solutions and renewable technology measures which the Company is installing in the local area.

Ms Patel said: “The rising costs of energy show how important it is for households to reduce their energy consumption and cut their bills. The services provided by the Mark Group enable them to do this while staying warm. Through my own experience and from meeting Mr and Mrs Pulford today, I can confirm just how easy it is to make a difference and create a positive change for the future.”

“There are good funding platforms available to every householder through the CERT scheme, in fact people may be surprised at just how little it costs to have their home insulated.”
Mark Group employs around 50 people in the Witham area and currently installs loft and cavity wall insulation to almost 500 homes locally every week. Mark Group has been operating since 1974 and to date has improved the energy efficiency of more than two million homes worldwide.
