Helping residents reduce fuel bills and CO2 with exciting renewable technology
The Client
Festival Housing Group is the leading provider of affordable housing and related services in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. They pride themselves on providing good quality homes and a greener environment for their customers.
Mark Group has been working over recent years in partnership with Festival Housing Group to deliver a number of energy efficiency projects. In 2010 Air Source Heat Pumps were installed to some of their housing stock.
The Challenge
To help affordable housing provider Festival Housing Group and their residents reduce hot water and heating costs in existing properties.
The Process
Festival Housing Group was very interested in looking at renewable technology solutions, to their high fuel bill and high emission properties. They provided Mark Group with a list of properties they wanted surveying allowing Mark Group to complete full technical surveys to provide the best possible solutions. Following these surveys it was apparent that Air Source Heat Pumps would be the most appropriate technology for the application.
The Solution
Firstly, Mark Group upgraded the loft and cavity wall insulation in properties requiring an insulation upgrade.
Then in January 2010, Mark Group set to work installing over 30 Mitsubishi Ecodan Air Source Heat Pumps together with the associated radiator systems in properties across Worcestershire and Herefordshire.
As the properties were all very different and spread out across a number of locations, the detailed surveys allowed Mark Group’s Design team to provide bespoke design requirements for each property. The residents were informed about the systems that would be installed and it was explained that not only would their carbon footprint be reduced, their utility bills could be greatly reduced too as a result of the installation.
Work commenced replacing the existing hot water storage cylinders followed by the installation of the Ecodan Heat Pump units to the outside of the houses. New radiator systems were also put into all of the properties. Before the technicians left each property, they showed the residents’ how to operate the system and ensured the residents were fully satisfied with the installation.
The project was eligible for funding support of 50% under the Low Carbon Building Programme Phase 2.The application was submitted and managed by Mark Group on behalf of Festival Housing and was accepted.
Mark Group managed the project end to end to ensure smooth running with minimal disruption to both the Festival personnel and the residents. Mark Group’s excellent administrative support also ensured the project ran to plan at all stages.
Further to the Heat Pump installations, Mark Group’s scope of works also included the supply and installation of dual coil cylinders for 12 properties that would at a later stage be fitted with a Solar Hot Water System to complement their Heat Pump System.
The Heat Pump installations were completed in April 2010 with Festival Housing Group and their residents being very pleased with the new systems.
