Mr & Mrs Toon
May 2009
Mr & Mrs Toon live in a 3 bedroomed detached house in rural Staffordshire.
The Challenge
Mr and Mrs Toon had reviewed their property’s insulation requirements and were looking for further ways to make their home as energy efficient as possible and save money on rising fuel bills. As they had south facing roof space they thought their location would be ideal for a Solar PV system.
Mr & Mrs Toon first visited the Mark Group at the Homebuilding and Renovating Show at the NEC, Birmingham in March 2008, enquiring about renewable technologies and in particular Solar PV.
They followed up their initial enquiry with a request to Mark Group to supply and install a 12 Panel Solar Electricity System on their property, otherwise known as a Solar PV (Photovoltaic) system.
The Solution
Mark Group stayed in contact with Mr & Mrs Toon, answering further questions they had regarding their project, in order to give them the best possible advice.
A Technical Support Manager visited their property to carry out a full survey and check that the property was suitable for the proposed system. These checks included looking at roof orientation, how the roof was constructed and the quality of the work, also looking at past fuel bills /electrical consumption over the past 12 months.
On completion of the survey Mark Group were happy to advise that the Toon’s property was suitable for the Solar PV System. Having had the quotation accepted, Mark Group were set to work to arrange the installation.
Three weeks later, Mark Group installed the 2 kWp on roof system consisting of 12 panels. The system took 2 days to install, including full commissioning and electrical testing.
Before the technicians left, they ensured that Mr & Mrs Toon were fully engaged with the whole system and were satisfied with the installation.
The savings so far
Approx six months usage – autumn/winter months
- The system has been working for 1600 hours
- It has generated 730KW hours
- It has reduced 432KG of CO2
Mrs Toon commented on the system “We have been very pleased with the system installed by Mark Group. Not only are we helping to save energy, but our fuel bills have already been reduced. The best way to save money with our system is to use what you generate. This has led to us being a bit more organised about our electricity usage e.g. doing laundry during the day, keeping an eye on weather reports to make sure we use most electricity on sunnier days. I would definitely recommend a Mark Group PV system in the home.”
