The Customer

Mr and Mrs Toon live in a three bedroom detached house in rural Staffordshire.

The Challenge

The Toons had already reviewed their property’s insulation requirements and were looking for further ways to make their home as energy efficient as possible. As they had a south facing roof, they thought their home would be ideal for a Solar PV (Solar Electricity) system.

The Solution

Mr and Mrs Toon first visited Mark Group at the Homebuilding and Renovating Show at the NEC in Birmingham in March 2008. They enquired about renewable technologies and in particular, Solar PV – after discussion, they agreed that a 12 panel Solar PV system would be the best solution for their property.

A Mark Group representative visited the Toon’s to carry out a technical survey to ensure the property was suitable for the proposed system. These checks included examining roof orientation, and construction, as well as looking at fuel bills and electrical consumption over the past 12 months. On completion of the survey, Mark Group confirmed the Toon’s property was suitable for a Solar PV system. And, after the quote had been accepted, Mark Group set to work arranging the installation.

Three weeks later, Mark Group was back on site installing the 12 panel, 2 kWp roof system. Before the technicians left, they ensured the Toons fully understood how the system worked and were completely satisfied with the installation.

The Benefits

After approximately six months’ usage across autumn and winter months:

• The system has been working for 1,600 hours


• It has generated 730KW hours


• It has reduced 432KG of CO2
