Mr and Mrs Watts
June 2011
The Customer
Mr and Mrs Watts live in a four bedroom detached property in Whetstone, Leicester, part of Blaby District Council.
The Challenge
Blaby District Council has been working with HeatSeekers since Autumn 2009. Their aim as a council was to work towards the Affordable Warmth Strategy by working with partners, and the community in Blaby to reduce fuel poverty.
The HeatSeekers scheme fitted the criteria of their objectives and the Council were keen to use this unique technology to highlight properties in the District that were losing heat and energy.
Mr and Mrs Watts, were not aware of the scheme or the benefits of home insulation, until their house was imaged by the HeatSeekers vans.
The Watts were surprised to find that although their loft was already insulated to the recommended levels of insulation, their cavity walls were not. They were advised by the HeatSeekers Team of the benefits of cavity wall insulation, and the savings they could make.
The Solution
The HeatSeekers Team completed a full survey of the property, checking for suitability including dimensions, depth of cavity, windows and features, single skin areas, ventilation and access issues.
A convenient date was arranged for the installation, and in March 2010, Mark Group, HeatSeekers installation partner arrived to install the cavity wall insulation.
The cavity wall installation took just a few hours to complete and technicians ensured the property was clean and tidy, and the Watts were happy with the work before they left.
Approximately eight weeks after the installation, the Watts received their CIGA (Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency) Certificate – their 25 year guarantee covering both the materials and installation.
The Benefits
Since the install in March, Mr and Mrs Watts are likely to see savings of up to *£110 per year of their energy bills and a reduction in C02 levels of around 560kg.
The Customer’s View
“We were shocked to see how much heat was being lost through the walls after seeing the thermal image of our house. The company were very professional when fitting the cavity wall insulation and the house was left very tidy. We have noticed an improvement in the property and even through the cost of gas has risen, our bills are now less.”
Mr and Mrs Watts
“Our partnership with Mark Group and the Heatseekers initiative has proved invaluable in our ongoing work to combat fuel poverty, and improve energy efficiency across Blaby District. To date, the Heatseekers project alone has provided energy efficiency measures in the form of 516 Cavity Wall and 281 Lofts insulated in households across the District, bringing estimated annual savings of £100,443.00 and 533 tonnes of C02.”
