Rochdale Boroughwide Housing
January 2007
The Customer
Rochdale Boroughwide Housing is a not for profit company, responsible for approximately 14,500 homes and landlord services on behalf of Rochdale Council.
The Challenge
The Company wanted to give Ravendale Close and Yew Court residential homes a £55,000 green makeover. They asked Mark Group to recommend the most suitable renewable technology solutions to benefit the residents in terms of living comfort, reducing carbon emissions and cutting energy bills.
The Solution
Following a full site assessment, Mark Group advised that a Solar Hot Water (Solar Thermal) system could be fitted on both residential homes.
Before work began, a Mark Group Product Manager visited the site to ensure the residents of both Ravendale Close and Yew Court understood what the project involved and were aware of any changes or disruptions that might be experienced during the installation period. Meetings were also arranged with the managers of the residential homes, to discuss where pipes would be fitted and to ensure that the residents were happy with the installation process.
Timescales for work were agreed with the Customer and costs were partly met through funding from the Government’s Low Carbon Buildings Programme, secured with Mark Group’s assistance.
Mark Group then went on to install the Solar Hot Water system, as well as flow metres and display panels at Ravendale Close and Yew Court, so that performance can be monitored on a regular basis.
The Customer’s Comment
“The Council is keen to introduce renewable energy as widely as possible in the Borough as part of its Carbon Management Action Plan. The installation of a Solar Hot Water system at these properties follows on from the success of a Photovoltaic Project at College Bank Estate.”
Wendy Stewart, Technical Manager, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing
“We are very pleased with the work undertaken by the Mark Group who proved themselves a very capable, competent and caring installer. The Solar Hot Water system and the new boilers should make a significant contribution in reducing the running costs of both sheltered housing projects.
Peter Williams, Principal Consultant for the Works, Landmark Energy
