Suzanne Higgins
January 2008
Suzanne Higgins, from Stamford, Lincs is a 39 year old IT Consultant, a high flying career woman deemed to ‘have it all’ with her own home, own money and a blue-chip career path lined with reward and opportunity.
However back home, Suzanne the corporate high flyer, admits to coming back down to earth with a bump, particularly when it comes to making the most of her property energy efficiency wise. Like a growing number of women of her professional status, she readily admits to being ‘green enthusiastic but green naïve’ – citing a perplexing array of information as a barrier to being more eco-aware.
Suzanne, who lives in a three bedroom semi detached house in a smart district of Stamford, said: "I would certainly class myself as someone who is interested in the environment but is unsure about how to go about being more eco-friendly and energy efficient. I want to go beyond just insulation, with solar panels and a wind turbine the next home environmental routes I wish to go down. It’s about, and my circle of female friends are pretty much the same, wanting to do my bit for the planet but not really knowing how to go about it."
The Challenge
An un-insulated home can lose a staggering half of its heat through the walls and roof but homeowners can make significant savings of around £200 per year* on their energy bills by insulating the cavity between the walls and laying loft insulation to the recommended depth of 270mm. An added bonus is that you reduce your carbon footprint at the same time!
Suzanne was led to the Mark Group’s website following a recommendation from a friend. After her initial enquiry, the process began with one of our Technical Sales Advisors surveying the property to determine whether it was suitable for any measures to be installed. Suzanne was delighted to hear that her property was suitable, and took the first steps to energy efficiency by having cavity wall and loft insulation installed.
The Solution
A couple of months in and Suzanne is already warming to the benefits of insulation, with the financial gains made on the energy bills already providing enough spare cash to spend on the little luxuries in life. Suzanne adds: "The change in my bills has been quite dramatic, with around a 30% cut in the overall amount. I can also feel the benefits in the house itself. All the rooms just feel so much warmer and my only regret is that I didn’t have it done sooner."
