Westleigh Developments are a leading midlands based property developer specialising in the construction of new build, commercial and residential schemes. Works commenced on site at Seaton Road, Uppingham in early 2008 to provide mixed tenure housing for Spire Homes (a member of the leading East Midlands-based Longhurst Group which manages 15,000 homes across the East Midlands, West Midlands and Humberside). The site was developed in conjunction with Rutland County Council and the Housing Corporation to provide affordable housing together with wheelchair accessible bungalows.

Many of the units on the site will benefit from solar hot water, one of the preferred forms of renewable energy sources.

  • To identify most cost effective renewable technology.
  • To identify most suitable properties for the installation of renewable technology.
  • To identify most suitable insulation materials to achieve U values for Eco Homes rating.

The Solution

  • Solar Hot Water identified as the most cost effective renewable technology.
  • Mark Group obtained Low Carbon Building Programme funding of £30,000 toward Solar Hot Water installation.
  • 25 properties were identified as being suitable for the installation of Solar Hot Water.
  • Knauf Frametherm Glass Mineral Wool identified to achieve required U values.
